Joe Duran is Chief Executive Officer and a founding partner of Capital Financial Partners, Inc. An author and widely recognized expert in the field of entrepreneurship, Joe was previously president of GE Private Asset Management (formerly Centurion Capital Management). He joined Centurion in 1992 when it was a small independent advisor and led the company to rapid growth with billions under management, culminating in the sale to GE Financial in 2001.

During Joe's tenure as the business leader at GE Private Asset Management and Centurion Capital, he created valuable firms with nationwide coverage, built unique investment solutions and consummated many multi-million-dollar acquisitions. Joe has actively raised capital from three private equity funds (Grail Partners, LLC, Putnam Lovell Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners) to invest, among these firms, over 45 million dollars of capital.

Joe holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and received MBA degrees from Columbia University in New York and the University of California at Berkeley. He did his undergraduate work at Saint Louis University earning a BS in Finance and Marketing.

He is the author of two nationally published books: Start It, Sell It and Make a Mint: 20 Wealth Creating Secrets for Business Owners (Wiley and Sons, 2004), and The First Time Investors Workbook (McGraw Hill, 2001). Joe is a frequent contributor to a wide variety of media outlets, including CNBC, Bloomberg TV and radio, CNNfn and dozens of radio shows. His articles have appeared in over a hundred magazines and he has been featured on numerous websites.

Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Roth is responsible for execution of the company's business plan and for coordination among the key operational functions of the company. He serves on the Executive Committee and on the board of directors of UCFA. Prior to joining United Capital, Mr. Roth was a co-founder and senior executive of AssureNet Ltd., a leading Internet application service provider for the insurance and financial services industries.

Mr. Roth spent more than seven years at AssureNet, in leadership positions in marketing, sales, operations, corporate development and capital formation. Prior to that, Mr. Roth spent two years managing the brokerage and bank business channels for E-Z Data, Inc., a major provider of contact management and practice management solutions for financial services professionals.

Mr. Roth holds MBA degrees from the Columbia University Business School in New York, New York and the University of California at Berkeley, Haas Business School in Berkeley, California. He earned a BA in History, cum laude, from Columbia College, Columbia University.

Mr. Capelle is responsible for United Capital's investment platform and is the chairperson of the Investment Committee. In these roles he oversees portfolio development, manager review and investment operations. He is also a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to joining United Capital, Mr. Capelle worked in private asset management, performing investment management and financial planning services. Prior to 2000, Mr. Capelle worked at Intel Corporation for ten years, where he held various management positions within business planning, operations, and engineering.

Mr. Capelle earned an MBA at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he also graduated with an MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He has a BS in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois, and has passed the NASAA Series 65 Investment advisor Law exam.

Ms. Westman is a founding member of the firm and is responsible for all corporate governance and regulatory compliance. She serves on the Executive Committee and on the acquisitions and due diligence teams. Ms. Westman's more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry includes more than 15 years of handling investment advisor regulatory matters. Prior to joining United Capital Financial Partners, Ms. Westman was the corporate secretary and regulatory compliance consultant for United Capital Partners, LLC, a private investment group.

Ms. Westman previously served for ten years as corporate secretary, director of compliance, and regulatory compliance consultant for Centurion Capital Group Inc., parent to Centurion Capital Management Corp. and Centurion Trust Company, a privately held professional asset management firm with more than $2 billion of client assets under management at that time. Centurion Capital Group consisted of six affiliated corporations including investment management and a trust company. In this capacity, Ms. Westman was responsible for corporate governance and Investment advisor Act regulatory compliance. She also served on the acquisitions and due diligence teams and acted as chief liaison with all outside corporate, securities and ERISA counsel. After Centurion was acquired by GE Financial Assurance Holdings, Inc. in 2001, Ms. Westman served as a consultant for investment advisory regulatory compliance and corporate governance matters to GE Private Asset Management, Inc. (now Genworth Financial Asset Management, Inc.) and GE Financial Trust Company (now Genworth Financial Trust Company).

Ms. Westman holds an MA in Secondary Education/Art and English endorsements and a BA in English and Writing, both from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She also holds FINRA Series 7, 24, and 63 securities licenses and the NASAA Series 65 Uniform Investment advisor Law Exam.

Mr. Hallman holds overall responsibility for investment research at United Capital Investment Advisors, Inc., (UCFA) and is a member of UCFA's Investment Committee. He develops and maintains UCFA's portfolios and investment strategies including initial and ongoing due diligence and the selection and replacement of investment managers. Prior to joining UCFA, Mr. Hallman worked for several firms as a portfolio manager in both equity and fixed income management and research. His more than 26 years in investment management includes extensive experience in asset allocation modeling.

Mr. Hallman directs the Regular and Core Investment Committee meetings and is responsible for the agendas for both meetings. He is also responsible for Individual Bond Ladder Management, contributes to the drafting of the United Capital Quarterly Letter and writes the Weekly Talking Points for the United Capital offices. Mr. Hallman earned a BBA and MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) designation.

Todd works on the Investment Research and Operations team at United Capital. In this role he assists with research for UCFA's Investment Committee and Regional Offices; and also supports the operational needs of our nationwide wealth adviser network. Prior to joining UCFA, Todd worked in the Annuity and Mutual Funds division at Pacific Life in Newport Beach.

Todd earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from San Diego State University. He is currently a Level II CFA® Candidate, and also holds FINRA Series 6 licensing. In his spare time Todd enjoys fitness, music, and American cinema.

As a member of the UCFA Investment Core Committee, Wayne is responsible for researching and identifying the appropriate investment vehicles to implement the Committee's strategy. He is the Chief Investment Consultant for PFE Advisors, Inc. (The PFE Group), and a faculty member of the Boston University Program for Financial Planners. Before joining UCFA, Wayne spent five years as Director of Quantitative Analytics at Loomis, Sayles & Co., L.P., a Boston-based investment management firm, where he also served as client liaison in that firm's consultant relations department.

Wayne has been in the investment management and consulting field since 1988, and his prior experience includes nine years as director of manager research for LPL Financial Services and as a senior investment management analyst for The Smith Barney Consulting Group. He has done extensive research in the areas of investment performance attribution, risk management, and asset allocation modeling. Wayne earned a BS in Business Administration and Economics from the University Of Delaware and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF). He is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research and the Boston Security Analysts Society.

Mr. Kurttila participates in all aspects of United Capital's corporate finance activities as well as its acquisition and recruitment efforts. He joined United Capital in 2010 and is based out of the Newport Beach, CA headquarters.

Prior to joining United Capital, Dana was a Vice President at Grail Partners LLC, a Boston-based merchant banking firm focused exclusively on the financial services and financial technology sectors. He participated in all aspects of Grail's private equity and investment banking businesses, including sourcing, analyzing, executing and monitoring transactions. Mr. Kurttila was a Board Observer for several portfolio companies including United Capital and Munder Capital Management.

Prior to Grail, Mr. Kurttila was an Associate at Conning Capital Partners in Connecticut, a private equity firm with more than $500 million of capital. Prior to Conning, Dana was an Investment Banking Analyst at Putnam Lovell NBF in New York.

Mr. Kurttila earned a BS in finance, summa cum laude, from Fairfield University. He was awarded the Dolan School of Business Finance award as the top graduating senior in finance. Dana also completed the Honor's program at Fairfield.

Matt Brinker is responsible for acquisitions development and strategic relationships. Matt identifies and maintains a pipeline of potential acquisition candidates throughout the United States. Mr. Brinker serves as the point person during the acquisition process and heads the Partnership Development Program. Prior to joining United Capital, Mr. Brinker was founder and President of Kelly Consulting Group, LLC., a San Francisco based business development firm.

Mr. Brinker managed a team dedicated to providing marketing, operations, personnel and growth strategies to alternative investment managers. Prior to that, Mr. Brinker was a registered marketing associate for Citigroup/Smith Barney where he provided prime brokerage solutions, enhanced leverage, institutional sales coverage and capital introduction to emerging hedge fund managers in conjunction with teams in San Francisco and New York City. Prior to joining Citigroup/Smith Barney Mr. Brinker was a junior investment advisor for J. Daniel Brinker & Company; a Denver, Colorado based investment advisory firm that services high net worth individuals nationally.

Mr. Brinker holds a BA in Economics and Minor in Finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder and obtained his MBA from University of California, Irvine Paul Merage School of Business.

Alexia Perry

Alexia is responsible for assisting the acquisitions team in all of its daily operations. She schedules prospective candidate calls, meetings and travel; assists with due diligence document management; and serves as the liaison between candidates and the acquisitions' team.

Prior to joining United Capital, Alexia worked in the Library and Office Furnishings industry, as an assistant project manager.

She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Business. Alexia enjoys reading, the outdoors, and independent films.

 
Katie Johnson, Director of Field Transitions

Mark Ciucci

Senior Vice President of Advice

Mark Ciucci is currently responsible for field advice implementation at United Capital Financial Advisers, Inc. In this role, he assists in recruitment efforts for candidate acquisitions, as well as the subsequent training in the UCFA advice and deliverable models.

Prior to joining UCFA, Mr. Ciucci was a partner in the firm of Bommarito & Associates, Inc. (formerly Bommarito, Ciucci & Associates, Inc.), a comprehensive financial planning and advisory practice and franchise of American Express Financial Advisers, Inc., which managed a total of $350 million in client assets. Mr. Ciucci's experience also includes fifteen years in field management with American Express Financial Advisers, Inc., with a final position of Divisional Vice President in charge of field operations in the Greater Michigan Division.

Mr. Ciucci is a Certified Financial PlannerTM.

Katie project manages the transition process and implementation of UCFA's "100 Day Plan." She serves as a liaison between the newly acquired firm and the Newport office during the transition process, overseeing the transfer of assets and operational development during the integration phase of newly acquired firms. In addition, she facilitates the New Office Orientation, Advice Academy and continuing education through UCTV web broadcasts.

Katie previously served as a client relationship manager for Signature Estate and Investment Advisors. She was an instructor at California State University, Long Beach teaching Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication and Small Group Communication. She received her MA in Speech Communications with an emphasis in Social Science Research from California State University, Long Beach in 2005. She received her BA in Speech Communications from California State University, Long Beach in 2003. She is FINRA Series 7 licensed.

Katie is an avid UCLA Football fan due to her husband Ryan being an alumnus. They are season ticket holders and look forward to the football season every year. She also enjoys traveling internationally and has recently visited Greece and China.

 
Brandon Moss

Director of Advice Services

Brandon is responsible for coordinating the advice and financial planning activities across each of United Capital's regional offices. He is in charge of the Centralization team that develops, designs, and produces the advice and investment management deliverables for each regional office. Brandon also works with advisers and meets with clients on specific issues as well as working with financial planning and investment management technology vendors.

His previous firm, Financial Synergies Advisory in Houston, Texas, was the first acquisition of United Capital. He specialized in working with oil and energy executives and retirees, small business owners, and other professionals. Brandon also worked with United Capital as it partnered and transitioned two other Houston area firms; Stabil Capital Management and Financial Synergies Retirement Advisers. Prior to Financial Synergies Advisory, Brandon worked for a prominent Houston trust company.

Brandon graduated with honors from Texas Tech University and holds a BS in Personal Financial Planning. He is a Certified Financial PlannerTM Practitioner and has been recognized by Reuters AdvicePoint as one of the "Top 25 Advisers" in the Los Angeles/Orange County area and one of the nation's "Top Advisors Under 40". His previous firm, Financial Synergies Advisory, was recognized numerous times by Bloomberg/Wealth Manager as one of the top wealth management firms in the country. He has been interviewed by media outlets such as SmartMoney, Money Magazine, Investment News, and the Journal of Financial Planning.

An avid golfer and former collegiate baseball player, Brandon lives in Newport Coast with his wife, Shelby, and their golden retriever, Webster.

Director, Advice and Planning Group

Emily is responsible for the training, education, and implementation of advice and UCFA client deliverables. She is also responsible for the overall management of the Advice and Planning Group (APG) located in Lubbock, Texas. The Advice and Planning Group produces client deliverables and regional office support documents. APG also supports the development and design of new client deliverables. Emily is also responsible for the training and education of field office staffing and is a resource for the Relationship Managers and Wealth Advisers.

Prior to joining United Capital, Emily was the Wealth Plan Design Specialist at Carson Wealth Management Group in Omaha, Nebraska. While working at Carson Wealth, she was responsible for the development, design, coordination, and education of the Financial Planning Division of the Enhanced Services Team.

Emily graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Personal Financial Planning. Emily enjoys volunteering her time as a mentor to young women preparing to enter the professional world. She also loves hiking across Texas with her husband, John.

Cindy Burns is responsible for all aspects of United Capital's Human Resources function. Cindy joined United Capital in October 2009. Working closely with the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors, Cindy is creating consistent, structured and scalable Human Resources programs to support the company's growth strategy.

Prior to joining United Capital, Cindy was Director of Human Resources for DRS Sensors & Targeting Systems, Inc. in Cypress, CA and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International in Aliso Viejo, CA. She partnered with entrepreneurial executives to develop and implement human resources strategies in support of the organization's global objectives. Cindy is a generalist with expertise in acquisitions, organizational change, employment law, compensation and benefits and performance management.

Cindy holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois and is SPHR certified (Senior Professional in Human Resources).

Cindy is an active member of SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management), NHRA (National Human Resources Association), OCEMA (Orange County Employment Managers Association) and SDRR (San Diego Recruiter Roundtable).

Brandon Gage is currently responsible for technology. In this role, he is responsible for the development, installation, support and training of the technology platform used by individual advisor offices. He also works closely with individuals responsible for corporate technology. Prior to joining UCFA, Mr. Gage was network administrator at Bommarito & Associates, Inc., a comprehensive financial planning and advisory practice and franchise of American Express Financial advisors, Inc. Mr. Gage is also the programmer for Boardwalk Technology Services, LLC, a technology company providing practice management software to fee-based financial advisors.

Eric Robertson is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining United Capital's data systems. Eric also assists Brandon Gage with technology developments and strategy, including conducting research on new products. Eric provides user support for United Capital's Salesforce system.

Before joining United Capital, Eric was a software engineer for a web-based startup operating in Northern California. Eric is currently pursuing his bachelor's degree from Devry University.

Mike is currently responsible for overseeing day-to-day compliance for United Capital, including the Annual Review, Advertisement and Marketing reviews, SEC exam preparation, AML supervision, and Policy & Procedure Manual and Business Continuity Plan maintenance.

Mike has been in the financial services industry for more then 12 years. Most recently, Mike was the Director of Sales Practice for The Financial Services Network, an Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction, consisting of a large producer group of broker dealer registered representatives and investment adviser representatives based out of Northern California. For his former company, Mike helped establish an investment advisory firm registered with the SEC.

Mike holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. He holds FINRA Series 3, 4, 7, 24, 31, 53 and 63 securities licenses and the NASAA Series 65 Uniform Investment Adviser Law Exam.

Mike enjoys international travel, photography and spending time outdoors.

Compliance Manager

Ryan Tolson is responsible for assisting Mike Herman with day-to-day compliance at United Capital. Prior to joining United Capital, Ryan spent three years working in the legal & compliance department at Legg Mason Capital Management, Inc. ("LMCM"), a Baltimore based institutional asset management firm. While at LMCM, Ryan was the point of contact between its clients and compliance related issues. Prior to LMCM, Ryan had an internship with Legg Mason, Inc. in the legal department where he assisted in mediations up and down the east coast.

Ryan has a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill ("UNC"). While attending UNC he was a member of the men's varsity lacrosse team. Ryan is currently pursuing his FINRA Series 7, 66, and 24 licenses.

In his spare time Ryan enjoys spending time with friends and family, surfing, playing golf, playing tennis, and coaching youth lacrosse programs.

Senior Vice President and Controller

Tony is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions of the Finance Department, which includes monthly and year end reporting, cash management, tax compliance, managing the audit process and various other special analyses.

Tony has over 30 years of accounting and finance experience. He began his career in the UK, primarily in the Retail Auto industry. From 1980 to 1986 he lived in Australia working as an accountant in the Resources industry. From 1986 to 1996 he lived in The Netherlands and worked in the Entertainment industry as CFO and Managing Director of a group of music companies. In addition to financial management he was responsible for recording, publishing, merchandising and touring activities of highly successful groups of musicians.

In 1996 he moved to Los Angeles and was the CFO of a music publishing company. In 1999 he joined Centurion Capital Management Corp. as Director of Accounting and later became CFO until the company was acquired by GE in December 2001 and became GE Private Asset Management Inc.. After this acquisition he held the position of Sourcing Leader until June 2003 and then worked on consulting projects dealing with Sarbanes Oxley issues for a number of medium sized public companies until joining United Capital in February 2007.

Tony holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) degree from Queensland University of Technology and qualified as a CPA in Australia. In addition to this he has a Diploma in Business Studies and is a qualified Company Secretary (ICSA) in the UK.

Assistant Controller

Jim joined United Capital as Assistant Controller in November 2009. Jim has over twenty years of accounting and finance experience working primarily for publicly traded manufacturing companies. In these roles he was responsible for month, quarter, and year-end closing, financial statement preparation and analysis, assisting with SEC filings, and assisting with quarterly reviews and year-end audits.

Jim has a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from California State University Dominguez Hills and a MBA in Finance from California State University Long Beach. He is also a CPA in the state of California.

Jim enjoys spending time with his family, going to sporting events and concerts, and listening to music.

Senior Accountant

As Senior Accountant, Wendy is responsible for assisting in the preparation of the Financial and Operating Reports of United Capital and managing United Capital's Accounts Payable. In this role, she examines and prepares financial records, reports, and supporting documentation for the Balance Sheet and Profit/Loss Statements, as well as, supervising the accounts payable process.

Wendy has more than twenty years of progressively responsible financial accounting experience. Prior to joining United Capital, Wendy served as Director of Finance & Human Resources at a privately-held corporation which focused on software for patient care and pharmaceutical services. That position, and one of Accounting Manager for a manufacturer of software/hardware for the aerospace industry, afforded Wendy the opportunity to expand her knowledge of GAAP and led her to coordinate more than 10 year-end audits performed by Ernst & Young and Peat Marwick (KPMG).

Wendy attended California State University in Fullerton, California where she received a Bachelors Degree with a dual focus in Accounting and English.

Senior Accountant

Brenda has been an accountant since 1988 and started her career in the United States Navy. After leaving the United States Navy, she went to work in the private sector. Brenda has several years experience in service, construction, property management and financial accounting along with human recourses expertise.

Brenda joined United Capital in 2006. She is currently responsible for managing the accounting for PFE and United Capital Financial Partners and also prepares the payroll for all the United Capital staff.

Natalie is responsible for all UCFA accounts receivable. She processes and properly allocates advice and commission revenues.

Natalie began her career at United Capital in August of 2006. She received her BA in 2006 from the University of California, Irvine, graduating with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology and Social Behavior.

Natalie loves to travel and has been to Europe twice as well as Croatia. She also enjoys riding her beach cruiser in Newport.
